The Truth about Forever

Title: The Truth about Forever
Author: Sarah Dessen
Reviewer: Isabella
Macy Queen is looking forward to a quiet, controlled, and boring summer. She’s got a job at the library, which her perfect and brilliant boyfriend, Jason, had dumped on her while he was away at Brain Camp, and she also has to prepare for her SATs. But when Macy helps out with one of her mother’s open house events, and meets the Wish Catering crew, everything begins to change. Her protected life and her stubbornness at trying to be perfect ever since her dad died a year and a half ago, slowly diminishes when she agrees to a job offer from Wish. Macy only then gets introduced to the fun, exciting, and crazy side of life: parties, staying out late, and doing things spontaneously. Soon enough, Macy becomes friends with the Wish Catering crew: kind, clever Delia; quiet and unique Monica; apocalyptic Bert; wild and fashion-crazed Kristy; and artistic, understanding, and handsome Wes.
Wes and Macy decide to play an ongoing game of Truth, where they reveal secrets to each other that no one else has ever heard. Through this, they become closer and closer. Macy begins to see her life in a different way and figures out how she can change it for the better. However, Macy is completely blind to things about Wes that are so obvious to her other friends.
But when her mother, who constantly needs to be in control and everything needing to be perfect, gets involved with Macy’s new and improved life, things go badly. Her cruel punishment leads Macy back to her old, boring ways and distances her from her new friends, especially Wes. So can Macy convince her mother to just live? Can she realize what Wes is really feeling? And can Macy figure out what the truth about forever really is?
