Menolly is a 12 year old girl that is really smart and kind but Yanus (Her father) doesn’t like her. Yanus won’t let Menolly play an instrument or sing. Menolly runs away and finds a cave that has 12 fire lizards in it. Right away she makes friends with them and they have great adventures! She also plays handmade instruments. When Menolly is caught in threadfall a young dragon rider finds Menolly. He saves her and tells her about Brendon Hall. Brendon Hall is a place where people have fire lizards. There, she finally finds a home.
