Matt lives in London and his only friend is a troublemaker so Matt got caught stealing and had to go live in the country-side as a punishment. He had to live with someone named Mrs. Dervill. Ever since he got there it seemed suspicious. So then he finds out that everyone there is going to try to kill him in order to perform a ritual. People try to save him but they end up dying. Then Matt finds out he has special powers and escapes. A man named Richard finds him almost dead far away from the country and he takes care of him while Matt tries to find a new life.
